Top Five Finish for Montecalvo at VIR

Wednesday, August 30, 2023 – Highlands, NJ – Vasser Sullivan drivers Frankie Montecalvo and Aaron Telitz finished P5 in the Michelin GT Challenge at VIRginia International Raceway. The top five finish elevated Montecalvo and Telitz back into third place in the drivers’ championship with two races remaining in the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech season.

“It was great to get back to VIRginia International Raceway. It’s one of the greatest circuits on the IMSA calendar, and we always get a fantastic turnout of fans, especially Lexus fans,” said Montecalvo.

“Aaron and I were able to score a top-five finish this weekend. We would have loved to have been a bit higher in the standings, but with that result, we were able to retake third position in the drivers’ championship battle.”

“It was a tough weekend with the extreme heat and variable conditions on race day, but the Vasser Sullivan team did a phenomenal job to keep our No. 12 Lexus RC F GT3 running flawlessly and our time in the pits to a minimum.”

“Aaron did an incredible job all weekend long, qualifying our car second in class, and maintaining a top five position for the duration of the race. While we couldn’t really respond to the BMWs that ran in the top three positions for the majority of the race, we were able to stay with the Mercedes just ahead of us and keep the rest of the field behind us.”

“I can’t thank the entire Vasser Sullivan team and Aaron enough for another solid weekend. Congratulations to the No. 14 guys on their second-place finish and retaining their championship lead in the GTD Pro class. I’m looking forward to getting back to the track in just over two weeks for the Battle on The Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”

The next event for Montecalvo is the IMSA TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The event marks IMSA’s first return to the infamous circuit since 2014. Be sure to follow Frankie on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date with all of his racing news.
