Monday, April 17, 2023 – Highlands, NJ – Vasser Sullivan drivers Frankie Montecalvo and Aaron Telitz finished third in the GTD class at the Long Beach Grand Prix.
Montecalvo qualified the No. 12 Lexus RC F GT3 second in class for the third round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. With only 100 minutes of racing on the 1.968-mile course that is notoriously difficult for passing, qualifying at the front of the pack was the first goal of the weekend.
“It’s always a pleasure to come back and race at Long Beach. The atmosphere here is incredible, and our Lexus thrives on this circuit,” said Montecalvo.
“The Vasser Sullivan crew gave us a phenomenal car, and I was able to qualify second in class. As with any street race, the starts are always hectic, and this one was no exception. We had some contact on the first lap and fell back to third, but our car was strong, and we were able to maintain our position for the remainder of the race.”
“Our crew was flawless in the pits, Aaron [Telitz] was able to keep the car clean, extended the gap to the car behind, and brought it home in third place.”
“It was a great team effort. I’m happy for the sister car to score a win, and we’re ecstatic to come away with third place points towards the championship.”
“I can’t thank the entire Vasser Sullivan and Lexus Racing teams enough for giving us a fantastic car and for all their hard work throughout the weekend. Our team continues to grow stronger each race weekend, and I look forward to getting back to the track next month at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca.”
The next race for Montecalvo is the Motul Course de Monterey at Laguna Seca on May 14. Be sure to follow Frankie on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date with all of his racing news.
