Wednesday, July 15, 2020 – Highlands, NJ – Less than two weeks after their second-place finish at Daytona, AIM Vasser Sullivan drivers Frankie Montecalvo and Townsend Bell are ready to get back to the track for the Cadillac Grand Prix of Sebring.
“Rolling off Daytona with a 1-2 finish gives us great momentum coming into a race weekend at Sebring. It’s awesome to have such a great showing for the team and for Lexus, especially after the long break,” said Montecalvo.
“The AIM Vasser Sullivan team has been working so hard and using their time wisely during the forced break, and I think it showed at Daytona. I hope that we can build off of the great results we had at Daytona and have another strong finish at Sebring.”
“It’s really exciting to go to Sebring for an event that isn’t 12 hours like we’re accustomed to. When you start a 12-hour race, you’re focused on making sure the car and all of the components can withstand 12 hours of bumps and heavy braking, and doing your best to avoid contact with other cars. We’ll obviously still try to drive as clean of a race as possible, but having a significantly shorter race at Sebring is exciting and gives us opportunities to try setups that we might not try during a normal 12-hour race.”
Taking on the bumps and challenges that are unique to Sebring is difficult at any time of the year, but adding the July heat could be an even bigger hurdle to overcome for both the drivers and their equipment.
“I do not doubt that our No. 12 Lexus RC F GT3 is going to be phenomenal this weekend. Sebring is inherently hard on tires because of the many bumps and surface changes throughout the circuit. With the hotter temperatures that we’ll see this weekend, we will need to manage our tires more so than when we race at Sebring in cooler weather. We’ll need to work to set our car up in a way that optimizes our tire wear, but the AIM Vasser Sullivan team knows what we need to do to make sure our Lexus is running at the top of the field, and I’m confident that we’ll see another great finish for our team at Sebring this weekend.”
