Thursday, September 9, 2021 – Highlands, NJ – After a month break since the last IMSA WeatherTech round at Road America, Vasser Sullivan driver Frankie Montecalvo is looking forward to getting back to the track for the first of two races in California this month.
The ninth round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship will be held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The 2.238-mile, 11-turn circuit is home to infamous Corkscrew turn.
“We’ve had a little over a month break since the previous round at Road America. I’ve been spending as much time as possible with my son, Frank Rhodes, who is just over a month old now. His Mom and I are adjusting to being new parents well, and I’m looking forward to when he can come to his first race,” said Montecalvo.
“I’m excited to get back to Laguna Seca. It’s a highly technical track, but it’s a ton of fun to drive. Laguna is notorious for its low grip surface, so finding a setup that can handle the surface but get the most speed through the corners is tricky.”
“This track is much shorter and has vastly different characteristics than Road America, so the team has been busy over the last month getting the car set up and ready to go for this weekend.”
“I’m looking forward to getting the weekend started. I know everyone at Vasser Sullivan and Lexus have been working hard to set us up for success this weekend, so I have no doubt we’ll roll off the truck and start clicking off solid lap times in our first practice.”
“We’ve had a couple of top ten finishes in our last few races, but I think it’s time to get back on the podium. Zach and I will be pushing hard all weekend and hope to find our No. 12 Lexus RC F GT3 on the podium Sunday afternoon.”
