Wednesday, May 12, 2021 – Highlands, NJ – Vasser Sullivan driver Frankie Montecalvo is ready to get back behind the wheel of No. 12 Lexus RC F GT3 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge on Sunday, May 16. Montecalvo will be joined by co-driver Zach Veach for the two hours and forty minutes race in Lexington, Ohio.
After nearly two months since the last round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the 12 Hours of Sebring, Montecalvo is more than ready to get back to racing. Mid-Ohio marks the first sprint race of the 2021 season and is a track where the Lexus excels.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to racing this weekend at Mid-Ohio. We had one test over the break at VIR, which was great to be behind the wheel again and shake off the rust, but I’m definitely ready to go racing,” said Montecalvo.
“Our car is traditionally good at Mid-Ohio. Lexus has won there the last three consecutive years, so it’s nice going to a track where you know your car functions and performs very well. Last year we had some bad luck at the start. We had contact with another car, which forced us to pit multiple times to repair the damage, but we were still competitive in terms of pace even with the damage. Still, because of the multiple stops, we were basically out of contention.”
“Going into the weekend, we know we have a great car, but we just need to stay out of trouble for 2 hours and 40 minutes. The last two races at Daytona and Sebring, we’ve been highly competitive, but we’ve had some bad luck. We were leading the race close to the end at Sebring but had contact which took us out of the fight, so I’m hoping the shorter race will help us.”
“The No. 12 car, in particular, is feeling good about Ohio. I know the Vasser Sullivan guys have been working hard over the last two months to make sure we’re ready to go when things kick off on Friday afternoon, and as long as we have a little good luck this weekend, I think we should find ourselves on the podium on Sunday.”
On track action for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge begins on Friday, May 14, and continues through the weekend. The green flag flies on Sunday, May 16, at 2:40 PM ET. You can watch live on NBC Sports with coverage starting at 2:30 PM ET. Be sure to follow Frankie on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with current broadcast times and all of Frankie’s racing news.
